56° F, who would have thought we'd be canoeing in December?
35° F
212 ft³/sec, 28 year average for this day, 125 ft³/sec

This is definitely the last trip of 2003! We said that back on November 23rd and we're pretty sure then, but with a predicted high temp of 55° at the end of December we had to go. Our unreliable canoeing buddies couldn't make it (surprise, surprise) so we did this one solo. It was a nice and quiet, very peaceful trip. Canoeing in December makes waiting until April not seem so far away.

Here's the scene from the entry point off Rt. 97. Note the canoe in the bottom left.
Me and Jen about to shove off.

The water was a lot higher than the USGS site indicated. There are usually rocks to avoid here in the beginning.
Yes, that is ICE hanging from the RR overpass. And no, that is not an alligator!

Snow everywhere and more ice on the branches in the water on the left.
Better shot of the ice on the branches.

We usually stop at this bridge but the usual beach area was gone, water level was too high.
Another spot that we usually stop that was under water.

Another ice shot.
Finally, we were able to stop at this beach. Although there wasn't much of it left.

I like the flare shots toward the sun.
The Sun sure felt good on your face. We usually go swimming at this spot, not with 35 degree water though!

Still can't believe how high the water level was.
Cool looking litlle water falls.

Fun with Photoshop™
Here's the Rt. 6N bridge where we pull out.

All packed up and ready to go home.

Another panoramic shot of the starting point, this from ground level. FWIW, the creek flows to the left from this angle.
